I was intrigued and somewhat confused by a photograph and an article in the UK newspaper “Daily Mail” of Tuesday, 14th October.  The British Prime Minister, David Cameron posed for a photograph with a group of local Morris dancers, who had (following centuries old tradition), “blacked up” by smearing their faces with a soot-like substance. Should any readers be unfamiliar with the term “Morris” dancers, it is generally accepted that “Morris” is a derivative of “Moorish”, which was the nationality of a nation of Arab Berbers who swept through NorthernRead More

This part of my ramble is about naked women!  However, to the relief of my more puritanical readers, and (possibly) to the disappointment of those with raunchy imaginations, there will be no explicit details or images!  I am going to start with Lady Godiva, who is probably the most (if not the only) famous “naked” lady in English history.  Lady Godiva was a “real” person who lived in Mercia (modern “middle England”) in the 11th century.  She is mentioned in the Norman Domesday records of 1067 as being the widowRead More

Thank-you, Nicos Anastasiades, for the best Bayram present EVER! On 7th October (the last day of the four day Islamic Kurban Bayram – Feast of the Sacrifice), the Greek Cypriot President, Nicos Anastasiades, gave the TRNC president, Derviş Eroğlu, the best Bayram present EVER!  He threw all of his toys out of his pram, and then withdrew himself and the rest of the Greek Cypriot team from the Cyprus ”peace” talks! If President Eroğlu were a Christian, and it was December 25th, he would be able to proclaim “yes, Virginia,Read More

It was announced earlier this week by Cyprus News Agency [CAN] and Cyprus Mail that the Greek Cypriot President of the Republic of Cyprus [RoC], Nicos Anastasiades, has pulled out of talks with the Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu for the time being. The announcement was made by AKEL leader Andros Kyprianou after a meeting at the palace with South Cyprus political party leaders. The island’sRead More

Some items of short news

Always the ‘Turkish invasion’ is brought up though that was forty years ago   Ever looking to drag the Republic of Cyprus’s distorted view of the events of 1974 into the international arena, Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Greek Cypriot Republic of Cyprus [RoC] used his speech at an event in his honour in London, hosted by the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood [?], as an opportunity to do just that. He was reporting that he believes that the RoC will be able to exit the bailout programme by the end ofRead More
