Pink October Events for Tulips
During the week the 19 to the 26 October the following events took place. We have given you a brief write up on each one. We do have photos of all the events and if you wish to have any of these to use please let us know.
Sunday 19 October – Pink Auction and Raffle at Jessics Bar, Lapta
This event started at 2 p.m. and Mus the owner dedicated 5tl for each meal they sold on the day. A raffle was held and also an Auction of goods that had all been donated, so all proceeds from both came direct to Tulips for Pink October. It was extremely well attended and with Katie B joining the event at 7 p.m. and providing the entertainment for us free, it went on well into the night. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and a big thank you to all who attended and so generously gave.
Wednesday 22 October – Reflexology Talk at Pia Bella
Maxine Callaghan, a qualified Reflexologist, came along to the Pia Bella on Wednesday to talk about the benefits of Reflexology to everyone, well or not well. She also managed to perform a short reflexology session on 5 of our attendees, all of who thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thanks to Maxine and also thanks to Pia Bella who provided the room and the tea and coffees for all our talks during Pink October free of charge.
Friday 24 October – Wear it Pink Day across all the TRNC
This was by far our biggest event and all the English and Turkish Schools in Girne and a lot of the schools in Lefkosa wore pink and donated to Tulips. Not only the schools took part but the banks, supermarkets, small businesses and individuals either bought our teeshirts or wore something pink on the day to help raise money for this extremely worthwhile charity and to raise awareness for Breast Cancer across the whole of the TRNC. Sue and I spent the whole day going around the schools and businesses on the day to say thank you to those who took part and to take photos to record what was a great day for us.
On the same day Cafe George in Girne went pink and all day provided Pink Cakes and had a Pink Do on in the evening. As always a huge thank you to George and all his staff for their continuing support for charity.
The Food Lodge provided a Pink Cake for us to sell on the day.
The Black Olive had organised a Zumba session with the proceeds coming to Tulips.
The Wild Duck at Karsiyaka had a Pink Lunch organised and were selling Pink Cakes all day.
The Oris Beach Bar in Alsancak organised a Pink Cocktail evening.
The Corner House in Ozankoy had their Jocks in Frocks event where they had a fashion parade of “Jocks in Pink Frocks” on a catwalk, dancing and parading for the audience. After which two of the Jocks had their legs waxed (and one even had his chest and underarms waxed) and got extremely well-earned sponsorship for Tulips.
The Olive Press in Lapta organised a Spot the Intro Quiz, all the entrance fees were donated to Tulips along with the proceeds from the raffle. Thankyou also to the winners of several of the prizes who then auctioned these off to raise more money for Tulips on the night.
These are just a few of the events taking place in Girne, we know that there were more events taking place in Lefkosa etc.
Saturday 25 October – Corner House Ladies Tea and Tarrot Card Reading
A much calmer event at the Corner House for ladies to come along in Pink and have Pink Champagne and Smoked Salmon and Cream cheese sandwiches. They could also have a Tarrot Card reading and be thoroughly spoilt whilst raising more money for us.
We also had a Pink Stall at Chateau Lambousa, selling goods and teeshirts etc, etc…..
Sunday 26 October – Corner House Bikers Event
The last of the Corner House Pink Weekend events was held on Sunday. This was a Bikers Burgers and Beer music extravaganza attended by the Bikers Club and the general public. Music was provided by Blue Tears from 12 noon to late into the evening and there was a Raffle and lots of goodies for sale on the day. A very well attended event and it was amazing to see so many people wearing our Pink and Black teeshirts and even the Bikers wearing our Pink October ribbons!
The Corner House have been fabulous in their support of our Month and our thanks go to the owners Harriett and Furat and the Manager Kelsey, along with all the staff and friends who worked so hard to make it a wonderful PINK weekend. We cannot find the words to thank you all so much.
Sunday also saw a trip to Akincilar where a Pink Quiz was run and prizes were available. 24 people attended this event.
Upcoming events this week:
On Wednesday we have a Pink Bowling Day at Kings Bowling, which runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Just go along and pay 20TL for a game of Bowling and 13TL of that goes straight to Tulips. You will also be given a free drink and a snack for your efforts.

and……… finally our last event on Friday 31 October is the Whirling Dervis performance at Bellapais Abbey. This starts at 8.30 p.m. and costs 15TL per ticket. We will be having a draw on the night for a bottle of Pink Bubbly and a wrought iron Whirling Dervis. Tickets are available from both Best Seller Bookstores or contact either Sue or myself by email [email protected] or call 0533 8731693 to see where you can get tickets from. Please support this last event and join in an extremely fascinating experience and make it a night to remember.
Our Pink Raffle draw will be held on Tuesday 4 November at 3 p.m. at the Girne branch of Near East Bank. But please can you publicise the fact that we will be selling tickets for 5tl each until the end of the month and they are available at both Best Seller Book Stores and will be at the Whirling Dervis event. Also Sue and Carole will be around selling these all week.
Finally it just remains for both of us to thank you so much for all your support that you have given us to promote our events and to help make Pink Month for Tulips what we are sure is going to be a fantastic success in both raising awareness for Breast Cancer and collect much needed funds for the Association. We will obviously let you know how successful it has been when we have collected all the money in, which hopefully will be the first or second week of November.
