Cavusoglu: “Opportunity window for a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus will not be open forever”
Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said “Opportunity window for a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus will not be open forever”
Minister Cavusoglu had a meeting with UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor to Cyprus Espen Barth Eide in his office.
During the meeting, Eide stated that he is still optimistic for finding a solution to the long-termed Cyprus problem and added that a solution cannot be reached if negotiations do not continue.
Emphasizing Turkey’s will for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem is still strong, Cavusoglu said “Turkey will continue its constructive approach. Drilling activities started in Eastern Mediterranean by the Greek Cypriot administration while the negotiations were going on contradicts the spirit of the negotiations. Turkish Cypriots also have rights in the natural resources present in the Eastern Mediterranean, we do not accept the Greek Cypriot administration’s unilateral approach. We will continue to support the United Nations’ contribution to this process. However the same should be done both by the Greek Cypriot administration and Greece. Opportunity window for a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus will not be open forever”.
