Easter religious festival brings happiness in Famagusta
|With there being no Epitaphios Festival on any Good Friday since 1957 the Famagusta local authorities invited the faithful from the Greek part of the island to visit, resulting in a vast number of Greek Orthodox worshippers attending the Mass held in the 14th century Ayios Georgios Exorinos church in the old walled city on Friday 18th April.
The Epitaphios is a four-postured litter with a canopy to represent the Holy Sepulchre on which in the icon of Christ or, in this case a Bible, is laid in state with it being completely decorated with flowers and candles.
The importance of Animal Welfare through the eyes of Baroness Meral Ece
Baroness Meral Ece, the first Turkish Cypriot to be given the honour of serving in the House of Lords in London, has a deep seated love for animals, and on a recent trip to North Cyprus she showed her support for Kyrenia Animal Rescue and the work that they do, and has in fact shown that support in practical ways as well as spiritual.
On reading a recent article concerning dogs in Mauritius, she immediately circulated the story to all her friends on Facebook and beyond, with a plea that something be done of a similar vein here in North Cyprus.
