|On Tuesday, after a ninety minute meeting with the Turkish Cypriot President Dr. Derviş Eroğlu under the auspices of the Good Offices Mission of the UN, President Anastasiades of the Greek Republic of Cyprus made a statement on his return to the presidential palace in south Nicosia: “I want to believe that this day will be the beginning of putting to an end to an undesirable and unacceptable situation that has kept the island and our people divided for 40 years.”
“Today’s joint declaration,” he said, “sets the framework for the basic principles of a solution. What is necessary is the vision and determination of the leaders and the people of Cyprus to work so that trust is restored on one hand and achieving a solution that will not have any losers.”
How giving blood saves lives
Thanks to the loving concern of his granddaughter, Meryem Baltaci, Hasan Gurdalli was able to have open heart surgery a week ago, and is doing well.
As soon as the appeal for blood was made known, fellow Rotaract, Burak Doluay, who is involved with the family advertising business as well as studying at GAU, was the first to volunteer. Not only did he volunteer for blood, but was able to give platelets which were vitally needed.
