Lurucina - Where Time Stood Still
As soon as the committee of the Anglo Turkish Association heard Sultan Barbaros, the Muhtar of Akincilar / Lurucina say "I want everyone to come to my village. No one should be turned back. It is thirty nine years now and it is enough!'
It was a day to remember and not one complaint was received by the organisers, Pearl Mitchell and Jewel Pearce, both of whom had been able to go over to the village before the date of the outing and meet the local people and ensure that as many as possible would benefit from the event, which it is thought was most definitely a 'FIRST'. During the past year, there had been occasional coaches of ladies from Guzelyurt, Girne and Catalkoy areas on an outing and they stopped for coffee, but these were all citizens. However, for foreigners, it is almost impossible without prior planning and permission, to visit the village which once was vibrantly alive with some five thousand residents, and boasted thirteen churches, many shops, and a huge agricultural way of life.
