The history comes in the form of a talk by Keith Lloyd on World War 1 which will be part of the next bi-monthly branch meeting to be held at the North Shield Pub at Chateau Lambousa.
The 1st September at 7p.m. is the date and time and the committee welcomes members with their friends to this meeting, the talk of which is free and lasts around forty minutes In addition a CD of over three thousand World War 1 images will be available to purchase for 30tl, 20tl of which will be donated to the RBL funds. It is announced that a special drinks menu price will be available for members which includes a pint of draft Efes or a glass of wine for only 5tlo, with local spirit and mixer at 7tl, or soft drinks at 4tl.
The Pomp and Circumstance will be part of a special showing of the 2013 Last night of the Proms on 9th September at the Wild Duck Cafe in Lapta. The gates will be opened and manned for access at 6p.m. and will be closed at 7.45p.m. so those wishing to enjoy this very special British evening, are asked not to be late. In order to keep that British feeling, those attending are invited to take anything to put them into the spirit of the event - flags, candelabras , and dress up 'to add to the Pomp and Circumstance'. Attendees might like to remember that some of the soloists of the Last Night have been known to have dresses fashioned out of Union flags or the men might like to copy the style of Bryn Terfel who created a stir as he walked d onto stage wearing rugger gear and clutching a rugger ball. (Welsh and Scottish flags are also encouraged!) And not forgetting Sarah Connolly who strode onto the stage of the Royal Albert Hall in 2009, resplendant in a Naval costume from the time of Nelson, complete with a sword which when drawn revealed a rolled up Union flag.
The event is far cheaper than the Albert Hall, at only 10tl for members and 15tl for non members and tickets are available from the Wild Duck (except Tuesdays). Any other information may be obtained from Pamela Padden on 0533 873 6876.
There are tables and chairs which can be booked for six or nine seats on a first come basis for members, but once all the tables have been booked then picnic blankets etc may be brought to sit on the grass, but it is important to note that one may not setup one's own tables and chairs on the grass, out of respect for the venue. When booking one must have a membership card, and non members must book through friends who are paid up members.
Fun and Games is on offer for member sonly, at the RBL Games Day at Limassol. Saturday 14th September between noon and 5p.m. at the Branch Clubhouse where four teams, Limassol, Kyrenia, Larnaca and Dhekalia Garrison W.O's and Sgts Mess will compete in a fun day.
