Christine had been invited by the current President Malcolm Mitcheson to share the first evening after the summer break to tell of her experiences as a Rotarian which started at a young age as an Interact member and has spent her life learning about, and living the message, for the past forty years.

This message she shared in a true evangelistic manner encouraging all members to 'put aside self' and help to right the wrongs of the world. She pointed out the success of many Rotary projects and the differences they had made, and how it is the duty (and should be joy as well) of participating to the fullest to make the world a better place through the sharing within the fellowship of what is Rotary. She challenged with questions such as 'Why are we Rotarians? Why are you a Rotarian?' and encouraged all to attend conferences and to work together within the community with others who are working to the common good.

At the meeting , Malcolm Mitcheson had invited the small committee of the Friends of the CESV, as they are working to similar
community help and have been raising monies through events to the point where they have raised in total one quarter of a million Turkish Lira which has been given back to the hospital and currently is working to acquire funds for medical transport. Mike and Brenda Plant, together with Jenny Tyler were applauded for all they have done. It was only a month previously that Malcolm Mitcheson had been on the receiving end of applause as he received a special commendation from Rotary International given to Liman Rotary Club for increasing Club membership quote dramatically in the previous year.

At that function, two members of the Liman Rotary received special awards for contributions to Rotary. Oktay Feridun who joined Rotary in 1959 and Gural Tanova. This meeting was Chaired by Christina who again inspired through her words and personal energy and dedication to Rotary.

Malcolm Mitcheson as the new president of Liman Rotary brings a wealth of Rotary experience from the U.K to the position. Already he has mapped out a programme to bring Rotary to the fore in Kyrenia, and has
Taner Erginel and Erol Celiker
arranged a programme which will encourage members of Rotary to be more committed, as well as giving non members the opportunity to learn more of the work being done and to contribute if they wish.
Speakers have been invited to some of the meetings, Wednesday 3rd September has Col John Hughes Wilson, with another lined up for October, plus there is to be a Gala Dinner/Fundraiser on the 20th September.
World Polio Day is on the 24th October and Liman Rotary will be organising a special Lunch as a fund raiser to help totally eradicate polio from the planet. Full details of this to follow, but this will include entertainment by 'Andrew Sings' and the news that with the fundraising multiplier of the 'Bill and Melinda Gates Foundaiton', every ten Turkish lira raised for 'End Polio Now', becomes thirty Turkish Lira.

With the encouragement of Christina combined with the experience and drive of Malcolm Mitcheson, it would appear that Liman Rotary was a fruitful year ahead, as it puts into operation that watchword 'Service Before Self'.
