September 2nd should be Sizzling, splashing, and SPOT on as an Acqua Day
by Marion Stuart
The 2013 SPOT (society for the protection of Turtles) Acqua Day was the most successful to date, in terms of finance and awareness , and Tricia Dann the Chairman of the Friends of SPOT who organised the day was delighted with the results of more than three hundred people through the gate and a handsome income of around 6,000tl.
Second September is looming, and once again t he gates at Lapithos Acqua Park will be opened at 10a.m. with games starting at 10.30.am. With temperatures such as those prevailing at the moment, a day at the Acqua Park could be the only place to go
The games will take place through the day (with a lunch break and will cover all age groups. There will be a tombola, items for sale, and more. The poster gives an idea of all that is on offer.
Hopefully BRT will be there to film, and Can Gazi will share the mike with a committee member to ensure no one misses anything.
Last year Mehmet Harmanci opened the event, and SPOT had hoped he might be free to do the honour this year, but as Mayor of Lefkosia, he is extremely busy. So there will be no official opening, except by all those who attend.
The CESV will be there sweating away in their orange t-shirts and ensuring their presence means safety for all!
The Friends of SPOT hope to exceed last year's figures as this is the tenth year for this event in the calendar of the fundraising. Raising awareness is vital, and funds are necessary, but learning through fun is even greater.
So who wants to splash, and sizzle, and be SPOT on for one day.
